slip

Dress: Topshop; cardigan: Topshop; bag: Accessorize; brogues: Topshop.

This is one of my favourite dresses at the moment. It was technically one of Topshop's nightwear/lingerie range but when it's layered up with an underskirt it makes the perfect grungy slip dress. You can't quite see it clearly on the images but it's really finely pleated so the skirt falls beautifully and the lace paneling on the bust is the perfect added detail. I'm not quite sure why it was sold as nightwear as I think it's much too pretty to just wear for bed, but this is coming from the person who goes for comfy, novelty pyjama's featuring the likes of Miffy and the Cookie Monster so it might just be me that thinks that! Anyway I figured I'd pair it with a cardigan to grunge it up that bit more, it feels like forever since I last wore any of my cardigans for anything other than covering up around the house. Thanks to the medication I take, I have a tendency towards getting overly hot, especially when I'm out and about, so I try to wear as few layers/woolly pieces as possible. This cardigan, although it's the perfect oversized slouchy shape, is made with real wool so it's one of the worst culprits for that horrid too-hot feeling. Is it just me who prefers their knitwear to be in cotton or acrylic, even though wool is meant to be a sign of a good quality knit, or is it something you tend to avoid as well?

photo diary #4

1, 2 & 3: Bright pink/orange knit still left in the Topshop sale online, bought for a measly £10. Also got the Mary Katrantzou tote bag and NewGen lookbook thrown in for free (unfortunately couldn't quite stretch to any of the proper Mary Katrantzou pieces although I really quite fancied this one) 4, 5, 6 & 7: Finally got hold of this season's Elle Collections, such love for Christopher Kane and the moodboard-style colour pages; 8: Neon feature in The Telegraph Magazine, wish the H&M dress/clutch were in any of my local H&M's; 9: Got my pinboard up, have started off with the SS12 poster that came with the last ASOS magazine. Only realised yesterday that it says 12 in Roman numerals even though my sister pointed it out to me when I put it up apparently; 10 & 11: AS/A-Level work finally displayed in my bedroom (image 10) and studio (image 11) 12 & 13: Got myself the Gareth Pugh for Topshop tee, him and I have something in common in that I also wanted to be a professional dancer once upon a time! 14: Finally got this Boohoo jacket I've been eyeing up. Been after an oversized, long-line black jacket/blazer hybrid-type thing for a while (to be precise, ever since I got this rust River Island one) and this one seems to fit the bill nicely; 15: And to finish, an adorable bonus bunny shot.  Feel free to bask in the cuteness!

Had meant to post this on Sunday, however my terrible internet decided to stop functioning and then yesterday I spent almost the entire day accompanying my mum to the hospital for something which could have been very, very scary but turned out to be okay. Hence why it's a couple of days late! Outfit posts to come later in the week!

this time last year

Well almost. This week has been pretty much a no-go in terms of forcing myself out of the comfort of my own home and wearing anything other than pj's or tracky bottoms so hence no new outfit posts. However I've had this set of photos from almost a year ago sat on my laptop just crying out to be made use of, so I thought I'd post them finally to fill a bit of the gap. These were taken back when I was still living in Newcastle and my dad came up one day and took me to Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland. It's situated right on the coast surrounded by sprawling countryside on one side and vast seascapes on the other, so it's safe to say it's a pretty impressive place to visit. The castle itself dates as far back as the 11th century, I believe, but has been built onto and adapted ever since so the style within is more in keeping with the 18th and 19th centuries which, for me, was slightly disappointing as I'm a real sucker for proper medieval castles, but its still an amazing place to visit all the same.

1 & 2: Castle exterior; 3 & 4: The father and I; 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9 More exterior shots; 10 & 11: Furniture/ceramics, don't you think the pale yellow oriental jars are so SS12, no? 12: The good-old mirror shot (pun not intended); 13: Tapestry that I think was woven by Russian prisoners, if I remember correctly?; 14: More furniture; 15: Have a weird fascination for medieval/old weaponry, apparently it seems they could never have too many variations on the spear head; 16 & 17: The Victorian kitchens, I somehow look as though I would fit right in? 18, 19 & 20: The outfit - Rings: Topshop & ASOS; Shirt dress: New Look; Under dress: ASOS; Coat: Topshop; Bag: ASOS; Boots: Debenhams.

giveaway winner!

Thanks so much to all of you who entered my giveaway, I wish I could give nice things to all of you but that would be a tad difficult both financially and logistically, so just the one will have to do for now! So anyway, the winner is...

Congratulations to Shiva and commiserations to those of you who missed out, however I hope to do many more giveaways in the near future so hopefully you will all get a chance eventually!

Anyway I'm off to continue watching all the LFW live streams. Follow me on twitter and pinterest to see/hear about my favourites!

photo diary #3

1: Recently purchased ASOS boots; 2 & 3: My bunny, Sky, and his accidental cape made of straw; 4 & 5: Some of my Pinterest boards, started using it this week and I kind of love it; 6: Redecorated front room, was originally the dining room which I'd used as a sort-of studio, now converted into my studio. Plus it'll be a living room once the sofa's delivered; 7: Detail of the chandelier; 8, 9 & 10: Studio storage, still can't believe I managed to fit all my stuff in a few sets of shelves; 11: A-Level final pieces ready to FINALLY go on some form of wall; 12, 13 & 14: The wonderful IKEA and its space-saving solutions.  This drawer unit perfectly fits all my work/portfolio etc so it's literally a god send, plus it's actually called ALEX, made for me or what!?; 15, 16, 17, 18 & 19: Yesterday's outfit (New Look jacket, Urban Outfitters blouse, Topshop dress, ASOS boots) featuring the Miss Selfridge body chain that is part of my giveaway. Only less than an hour left to enter, so make sure you do it now if you want in! The winner will be notified tomorrow.

Thought I'd get back into posting photo diaries, had started them last year but didn't manage to keep them up. Hopefully I'll have enough interesting stuff to fill these up with! We're currently doing major redecorations to our house so you may end up seeing a bunch of swatches and furniture and so on. Any objections, let me know!
