More Stripes

These were yesterday's outfits but as I was pretty busy I didn't get chance to post them on here. This was the outfit I wore to college, I went for layers as the weather yesterday (as well as today, surprise surprise!) was really wet, cold and generally rubbish.  I wore my striped Warehouse dress with my denim shirt and leather jacket and the usual accessories.

Shirt - Topshop
Jacket - River Island

I also went out in the evening to see Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake for the second time and decided I felt like being a bit more glam, so I wore my lace shirt dress with my faux fur coat, and I even put on lipstick and everything!

I'm finding it slightly painful to look at these pictures as I got my hair cut today, and my hairdresser cut way too much off the ends and my fringe, so it's looking pretty poo right now :( I love him and he's been my hairdresser ever since I was like 2 years old but sometimes he gets way too enthusiastic with the scissors. So, I'm currently wishing I had yesterday's hair back, even though I had millions of split ends and my fringe was always in my eyes.

* Note! The pictures in this post were taken before I got my hair cut, so lovely long hair then, and now not so much! I think my post is all confusing on account of me being traumatised lol.

Spring/Summer Wishlist

Thought I'd put together a couple of collages of the pieces I'd like to get over spring/summer. I'm very much into the idea of pairing girly pieces in nudes and pastels with harder-edged accessories. Oh, and the wedges at the bottom from Topshop just came online today and I don't think I've ever wanted anything as much as I want these. They're just amazing!

My First Award!

Thank yooou to Katie at http://mskatie87.blogspot.com/ for giving me this award!
Also I apologise for taking a while to post this, I'm still pretty new to this sort of thing :)
Anyway I really love being a part of the fashion blogging world and I'm very happy that people are enjoying my blog, it really does mean a lot!

New Denim Shorts

I got these high-waisted denim shorts on sale for £15 from Miss Selfridge the other week and I finally got around to wearing them today. I really love the shape, although they are pretty short, the waist is really high and they're really comfy and not too small, I've got a big bum/hips/thighs so I have problems with stuff fitting me around that area, but these are just right. Ah, the curse of being pear-shaped :(

I was just going into town today, so I went for quite a casual look, Halifax is hardly fashion-central. Anyway I was out getting all the stuff together for a family party tomorrow, like banners and balloons and nommy treats, which is in honour of my 18th birthday that's now only 5 days away! (Yes, my birthday is on April Fool's Day haha.)

It's all quite exciting as my family are coming over tomorrow and then for my birthday itself, I'm going to London for a few days! So hopefully lots of Oxford Street shopping, nice meals out and a bit of a visit to the V&A museum. I'm also hoping to go to the Bicester Shopping Village on the way there. I've been once before and it was so good, lots of gorgeous designer stuff for bargainous prices but I really want to go again as there's a pop-up boutique opening next week called the British Designer Collective, with designers like Preen, Erdem, Mark Fast, Markus Lupfer and Hannah Marshall to name a few at up to 50% off!!! How good is that?!?
And obviously there's the Luella store too, which I made a beeline to straight away when I went last year. That was possibly one of the most exciting moments of my life, walking into a Luella store where everything is massively discounted! And obviously actually buying a dress from the A/W 09 collection for £125 was pretty good as well! Anyway I'll try to get pictures of it up on here as it is completely gorgeous and deserves to be shown off more!

Vintage Lace

Today's outfit consists of a cream lace shirt that was actually my mums from 10-15 years ago, I think, along with this mink coloured jersey skirt I got on ASOS last year for like £5. I've only worn this skirt once before when I was on holiday last year so I thought I should really give it another go, considering the colour is actually really appropriate for this season.

Today was another ordinary sort of day, college and so on, although it was funny when my older brother, who's currently back from uni, picked me up from college in his "slammed" VW Corrado from about 1990 that currently has day-glo orange wheels. My dad and brother are huuuge car nerds and they have this massive obsession with old VW's, and as I've grown up with it, it's unfortunately kind of rubbed off on me and I sometimes find myself actually having conversations with them about cars. It's terrible, I know.

Thought I'd share that I'm listening to Metallica at the moment. I've always been a bit of rock chick at heart but I have phases where I only listen to classical music or like Tori Amos, but right now I'm very much back into the heavier end of things. At the moment though, it's this ridiculously hilarious bootleg of studio jams they did around 12/13 years ago where they're playing random covers really badly with silly vocals along with lots of discussion about gin. Anyway I'm sure that's of no interest to most of you haha, I just find that that sort of thing really makes me smile :)

I Love My Maxi!

I've got really into maxi dresses since I got my ASOS one, they're just so comfy and great for when I don't feel like showing off my legs. I also love how you can play with layering and proportions as well. Today I wore it with my Topshop lace shirt dress, I really adore it as it's just so versatile and the lace and the colour are all just perfect. I was also wearing a long grey cardigan with this earlier but the sun came out when I got in from college and it was all lovely and warm so I ditched it. Anyway nothing particularly interesting went on today, just a normal day.

Okay, saw these wedges on ASOS the other day and I want them.
Or these actually, can't decide which though. I think the pair above would be more flattering for my chunky legs (?) but I'm not sure.
Also there are a number of other things I have my eye on as well at the moment.
Firstly, this maxi skirt from River Island, I love the grungy tie-dye print.
This maxi dress from New Look, love the print and an appropriate tribute to the amazing McQueen.
And another River Island piece, I'm not usually a big fan of River Island, but I'm really liking this season's stuff. Anyway floral print, bodycon, big gold zip, what could be better?

One of Those Days

It took me ages to come up with something to wear today. I don't like how confusing the weather is right now, one minute the sun's out, the next it's chucking it down. I want to start wearing more spring/summer stuff, pastels, ruffles, florals and so on, but I just automatically steer towards dark colours when the sky is grey. Anway I finally came up with this outfit, which is my Topshop lace shirt dress that I've tucked into my bodycon skirt and layered with my grey blazer.

I got a remote for my camera today so I've been trying that out, also while me and my dad were at the shop we had a look at a couple of digital SLR's, as I'm hopefully getting one from my parents on completion of my A-Levels. I think I like the look of the Nikon D5000 as it's slightly more affordable, we were looking at an £800 one but I think that's perhaps a bit excessive!

Peg Trousers

I decided to wear my peg trousers today as I haven't worn them in a while and I felt like I needed to give them an outing. These trousers were another one of my sale bargains, this time from Topshop, for around £7 or £8 I think. I also thought I'd wear these suede boots I'd got a while ago from ASOS and hadn't got around to wearing yet. To be honest, the amount of stuff I have in my wardrobe that I haven't "got around" to wearing is really quite bad now.
I'd wanted to put these trousers with my vintage lace top, however it was actually kind of warm today so I just went with a simple vest in a nude colour and layered it with a floral shirt and then my denim shirt too.

I went to see my grandparents today,  as well as see my aunt, uncle and cousins and meet my adorable new baby cousin. He is sooo lovely and really quiet, but he is only a week old so I'm sure that'll change pretty soon!

I remembered I had this sheer gingham blouse that I got in an Urban Ouftitters sale sometime last year and decided today would be a nice day to finally wear it, considering Christopher Kanes SS10 show was all about gingham prints and spring seems to be pretty much here now. I'd never quite been sure how to wear this blouse without it looking too cutesy but it only just dawned on me today that I could actually unbutton it and layer it over dresses as well as team it with denim or leather or something to get more of a grungy look.

New Top

I finally got to wear my new Miss Selfridge top today. I really love it, the colour is just gorgeous and I love the oversized shape and the way it drapes. I wore it today with my high-waisted denim shorts and vintage blazer to give it more of grungey feel. I really wish I could wear my denim shorts more often, but I don't like to wear them to college or anywhere like that because I really don't have the best legs and I can get pretty self-conscious about it.
I wore this out today to go shopping in Leeds with my mum. We were on the hunt for a dress for my mum for the Parent Prom next weekend at my sister's school, where I assume all the parents get a bit tipsy and dance in an embarrassing way. My mum hardly ever wears dresses as she's also really self-conscious about her legs, so it's sometimes difficult to find something she feels comfortable in. Thankfully we found something perfect pretty much straight away, so today was quite productive, overall :)

I took my photos outside today, as I felt like a bit of a change, and I think I prefer it. What do you think?

PS I just wanted to thank anyone who has been reading and commenting on my blog, it's a really lovely feeling reading your comments, or seeing that someone is following me on here, and I really appreciate it. So again, thanks :)

Stripes and Denim

This is just something I wore earlier this week. I'd got this striped bodycon dress a month or two ago now as I thought it would be a really lovely colour for spring but I wasn't sure how to wear it. However I layered it with my denim shirt and my oversized beige cardi and I was really happy with how it looked. It was also really warm and cosy too.

Mum's Old Jumper

I felt like wearing something nice and cosy today so I decided on this jumper that my mum apparently wore when she was pregnant with my brother, which is just over 20 years ago now. I still think of me and my brother when I was like 5 and he was 8 and we were running around the house re-enacting Final Fantasy games or playing with Pokemon cards, so thinking about that feels a bit weird.
Anyway, I wore this with my bodycon skirt and this coat I got in the winter sale at Dorothy Perkins. It's like a cross between a girly trench coat and a biker jacket, which I just love along with the checked print, and the cute puff sleeves too.

Today's Buy

Just bought this nude coloured oversized blouse from Miss Selfridge. I usually try to avoid spending £30 on one item but I saw it on ElleUK.com in their New In This Week thing and thought "ooh, yes please".
I think it'll be really versatile and perfect for this season. I'll probably wear it with maybe high waisted denim shorts or a bodycon skirt, with a blazer or a cardigan. Anything really, as I must justify spending more money!

From Sometime Last Year

Tights - ASOS

This look is actually from quite a few months ago now, it was probably around October last year when I visited Nottingham Trent University to look at their Fashion degree course. It's weird to think since then I've gone through the whole UCAS thing, and portfolios and interviews and confirmed my offers (at Northumbria and De Montfort though).
Anyway, I really liked this outfit, particularly the lace tights (although after about 5 seconds of wear they go all loose and wrinkly, so annoying!) so I thought I'd post it :)

My Photography

Some of my photos from yesterday.
I love it when the sun comes out. It makes everything look so pretty :)

Spring is Here (Just!)

As today was so nice and sunny my mum and I decided that we needed to make the most of it and went out for a walk at Golden Acre Park in Leeds. My family's been going here ever since I was little, and I feel like I have a real affinity for it. I particularly love the great big duck pond, as I find ducks to be quite amusing :)
I decided I needed to wear something which was much more spring-inspired so I wore my floral Topshop dress layered with my holey jumper, but I toughened it up with my new duffle bag and gold chains. I also wore this with my lovely Whistles coat, as it was still only about 5 degrees outside, so I was definitely in need of more layers.

Jumper - H&M
Coat - Whistles

I also took quite a few photos of the park itself, trees and the lake and so on, so I'll post these soon :)

Last Night

This is the new velvet dress I posted about the other day. It was delivered yesterday morning in a nice big ASOS box along with my bag and I was very pleased to see that it's actually made up of panels rather than just being a tube dress, so it fits really well. I wore this with my grey blazer from Topshop which is in a kind of shiny fabric so I thought putting this together with the velvet dress would create quite a nice contrast in textures. I also layered this with my floral shirt to add a bit of colour and dress the look down a bit, same with the grey ribbed socks.
Blazer - Topshop
Shirt - Urban Outfitters
Dress - Mango
Socks - H&M
Boots - Schuh

Anyway, I wore this out to the theatre last night to see Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake at The Lowry Theatre in Salford. I'd been desperate to see this ever since I watched it on TV a few years ago, and it turned out to be even better than I imagined. I am a huge fan of Matthew Bourne's work and loved his versions of Edward Scissorhands, The Car Man and Nutcracker! so I knew I'd love it, but last night I was literally blown away. Not only is the choreography and story incredible but the costumes and sets are just as good, one of my favourites being the swan's costume below, and they all make you feel completely immersed in the story.
Dancing has been a part of my life for almost 14 years now, ever since I went to my first ever dance class wearing a sparkly white tutu at the age of four, and I've always loved watching live dance performances, as well as going to classes in all sorts of styles. My favourite live piece for the past few years has been El Corpo by a Brazilian company called Grupo Corpo. It's this really incredible fusion of jazz and contemporary with a really quirky soundtrack and costumes, as you can see in the picture below.
BUT, I think Swan Lake last night might have just beaten it to the top of my list. So much so that I've just booked to see it again as an 18th birthday treat at the end of the month!
